The Tenor of the Times

In linguistics tenor refers to the participants in a discourse, their relationship to each other, and their purposes. Based on such "tenor", the kind of language likely to be used in a setting can be predicted — and it is suggested that this is exactly what we do, unconsciously, as language users. Indeed, today the tenor of our times is more important than what is being said! (to be expanded)
